AN EVENING WITH NINA

recital-drama

WHO WAS NINA?

Whilst discussing options for recital themes with my father, the conversation naturally led to the incredible life and legacy of Nina Pavlovna Koshetz, who I recently had the pleasure of learning about through a film project. With all the research and insight into her life at my fingertips, and realizing what an incredible but relatively unknown legacy she had, I chose to create a recital dedicated to Nina's life journey in order to reintroduce her to the public.

Nina had a profound effect on the music industry both as an artist and a muse. We might not have some of the greatest pieces ever written at our fingertips today if it had not been for her influence. She was a strong woman who knew her worth and was not afraid to go after it.

My intention for this recital is to showcase Nina's life intimately through the pivotal music of her life mingled with anecdotal stories from her unpublished autobiography. Beginning with the discovery of her voice amidst the tragedy of her father’s death, the part she played as a musical catalyst (and lover) of Rachmaninoff, and finally her daring escape from Russia, and subsequent emigration to the United States.

This recital will feature songs which defined her career and the music industry: pieces like Rachmaninoff's "Daisies" and his famous vocalise.
