ABOUT

emily scott

PRAISED FOR HER "FULL, RICH VOICE"

and "splendid" performances, Emily Scott is a New Zealand-Australian soprano and performer based in Los Angeles, California. The 2025 season sees her role debuts as Carlotta in Pacific Opera Project's US premiere production of Salieri's La scuola de' gelosi and as Musetta in La boheme with Opera Italia. She will also be featured in Pacific Opera Project's Artist Recital Series in her newly developed recital called An Evening With Nina, exploring the life and impact of Nina Pavlovna Koshetz. Nina was a soprano, a Russian refugee, and the muse, collaborator, and lover of Rachmaninoff. The recital will reintroduce her to the world featuring the music that defined her career and cultural context, using her unpublished autobiography as a guide and occasional narrative voice.

A graduate of UCLA and the New Zealand School of Music, Emily made her debut with New Zealand Opera during her residency as one of their Dame Malvina Emerging Artists, singing the role of Clorinda (La Cenerentola). She has performed throughout New Zealand, Italy, and the United States, in operatic roles as Lucette (Cendrillon), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Micaëla (The Tragedy of Carmen), Frasquita (Carmen), Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), Assistant A (Womb with a View), and Mary Crawford in the Southern California premiere of Mansfield Park. She has also performed the abridged roles of Rosina (The Barber of Seville) with New Zealand Opera’s outreach program and Magda (La rondine), covered Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, and performed Frasquita in a concert of Bizet's Carmen alongside international talents Kelly O'Conner and Charles Castronovo.

Emily has been a soloist in concert with Long Beach Symphony, Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, Burbank Philharmonic, and Musica Angelica. At home in a variety of styles and genres, Emily performed music of the Rogers Family in collaboration with Steven Blier (New York Festival of Song) and in a tribute for Austrian cabaret comedian Hermann Leopoldi with internationally renowned baritone, Vladimir Chernov.

Emily is a champion of new work and a curious musician and performer. Debuting as a featured artist for Long Beach Opera in their 2020 Songbook with the premiere expected face by composer Katherine Young, she has had the pleasure of premiering works by several composers including Peter Golub, Douglas Lilburn, and Vasken Ohanian.

An avid lover of all genres of music, Emily also has extensive experience as a choral singer. As a core member of the Catalyst Ensemble, under the helm of Grammy award winning conductor Dr. James Bass, Emily has performed in the Southern Premiere of the oratorio Considering Matthew Shepard (Craig Hella Johnson) and several a cappella recitals: Spain and the New World, Catalyst Christmas, and Music of the Bard, which featured texts of Shakespeare set to music.

In 2024, Emily performed with The Opera Buffs in the recital series Viva l'Opera alongside Sri-Lanken tenor Emesh Wijewardena, in a Sondheim Tribute Revue with the Long Beach Catalyst Ensemble, and in Pacific Opera Project's Cinderella Story in conjunction with WEHO Arts. She has worked in masterclass settings with Renee Fleming, Simon O' Neil, Stephen Osgood, Hakan Hagegard, Anthony Roth Costanza, and Dolora Zajick.

A MEMORABLE HIGHLIGHT.

"...Paired with soprano Emily Scott as Carlotta, the duo offers warmth and humor, elevating their secondary roles into memorable highlights."
